Saint Petersburg International Banking Conference

Dear colleagues,

The 22nd St. Petersburg International Banking Conference(SIBC) was held from July 5 till July 7, 2017, it was organized by Promsvyazbank with the support of the Association of the Russian Banks (ARB).

The participation of each of you has become a valuable contribution to the development of the financial industry and helped to reveal the most important topics of the day. The traditional format of the conference allowed covering both global economic trends and particular banking cases.

The business part of the conference began with summing up the 2016 results and analyzing the economic picture of the day. The main panel featured Promsvyazbanks speakers Alexey Ananiev, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Nikolai Kashcheev, expert analyst.

This panel was remarkable for the heated debating of various positions and keen discussions.

Another session covered the burning problem of correspondent accounts in the foreign banks and cross-border transactions. A separate panel was devoted to the impact of innovations on the landscape of banking.

In the business program of the second day of the conference the session with a provocative topic "The results of banking sector cleaning-up" sparked the most interest. The vigorous debates of the speakers were moderated by Anton Tabakh, Chief Economist of Expert RA Rating Agency.

The Bloomberg L.P. panel brought together the international experts and was devoted to the implementation of the MIFID directive. Can cross-border transactional business work as usual? Besides interesting speeches made by the speakers and the moderator, the session was remarkable for drawing a special prize among the participants for the most interesting question to the expert.

An eventful cultural program has become an obligatory component of the SIBC. The events were traditionally held in the historical places of St.-Petersburg.

This year, the welcome reception devoted to the opening of the conference took place at the legendary Astoria Hotel with centuries-old traditions and a unique location opposite the St. Isaac's Cathedral.

The evening reception at the end of the conference first business day was held at the Mikhailovsky Castle, a unique monument of the late 18th - early 19th century Russian architecture. Its program included the music band performance, the guards parade and the castle history tour.

The traditional gala reception devoted to the official closing of the 22nd St.-Petersburg International Banking Conference was also held in one of the most magnificent and striking architectural monuments of St. Petersburg - the Marble Palace, the pearl of the palace architecture.

So, the conference continues playing an important role from year to year, both in the development of the financial market and in appreciating the cultural values of the northern capital.
